In May of 1945, 6 miles offshore Usedom, the minesweeper M 14 hit a mine and sunk.
For decades, all waste deposits like ammunition and 140 tons of oil have been on the ocean floor.
With the years, the oil tanks were rust through, oil residues were found on the beach of Usedom. The Ministry of Environment of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania assigned us with the salvage and clean up of the oil waste deposits.
The salvage mission took place 2003.
We needed one week in total and numerous diving missions to locate the position of the tanks on the wreck. Afterwards the oil tanks were pumped dry.
The ammunition has already been salvaged in the 80ies by navy divers of the former GDR army.
